Very fine and rare pair of Georgian portrait paintings, depicting a husband and wife couple – “Mr. and Mrs L’Estrange Southgate Austin”. The paintings – a perfect pairing – are by the well listed and highly regarded Georgian painter, Henry Wyatt (1794-1840), with one being signed and dated 1827. The artist entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1812 and studied under the care of Sir Thomas Lawrence n 1815. It is easy to see the influence of the master within Wyatt’s work. Lawrence thought highly of Wyatt and he went onto exhibit extensively over the next 20 years. Each painting is extensively described verso with biographical details of the respective sitters. One is signed. The paintings have come to us from a private collection in England, where they have hung for many years. Prior to that, the works have Christies provenance, bearing their stencil marks stamped verso. Each painting (the actual painting) measures 12 x 9.5 inches). We can ship these works safely worldwide.
